Leather Crafting gets a bit more advanced when you start sewing zippers into your work. In this video we make a nice leather zippered pouch. This design can be used to carry all of your EDC (every day carry) pieces, it can also be used as a purse or clutch, you can also adjust the size to make it bigger for or smaller to carry tablets or to use as a wallet.
Sewing in a zipper by hand is fairly simple once you get the hang of it. I use basting tape to attach the zipper to the leather, which holds it firmly in place while I punch and hand stitch the zipper to the leather. Once that is complete, it's just a matter of hand sewing all of the other leather pieces together with waxed thread, burnishing, and finishing up the piece.
As a side note, you can also use basting tape to attach leather pieces to each other. This tape does not provide the structural strength of leather cement, however in a piece like the card slot where there is not much movement the stitching is more than strong enough. Basting tape makes for a much cleaner, easier way to line up a piece of leather that is centered on another piece of leather, just remember to burnish your edges before installing!
Опубликовано: 12 нояб. 2018 г.This is one of our ongoing projects in association with Electric Bike Company, based out of Newport Beach, CA, USA. Earlier this year, they approached us to help bring a handcrafted leather pannier style bike bag to their customers.
Our goal was to offer a bike bag that complimented the quality and durability of the bike while providing something different from the other bags on the market.
Handcrafted in Orange, CA, USA, these bags are made from Wickett & Craig's Buck Brown Harness leather and sewn with white polyester thread from Maine Thread Company.

Join our guest, expert maker Jimmy DiResta on our channel this week as he creates a leather tool/carryall bag using English Bridle Leather in 3/4 oz. The leather bag and handles are cut by hand and stitched together using the Weaver 205 sewing machine. Solid copper rivets and brass rivets are attached to stress points for added strength.
Опубликовано: 27 мар. 2020 г.Making a simple leather tool bag for my bicycle that mounts under the saddle. Easy and relaxing project I was able to make in my apartment with limited tools in this lockdown period. Leatherworking is always fun and enojoyable to me! I decided to limit punched holes to minimum so I don't bother neighbours and got a decent result with drilling with 1.5mm bit and enlarging with thick needle/awl on the hand held drill. I used thick and un-finished leather for the side caps because it holds the shape way better than the thinner one I used for the rest of the bag.
If you are doing something like this you need to figure out a mount solution as most likely the way I did this is not applicable to all saddle.
For those asking where to find tools:
I bought mine some years ago when I was starting to make leather sheaths. I went for the cheapest I was able to find. Have been working great so far! Can't find exactly the one I have but I listed some in my amazon storefront that are pretty much the same and any similar ones will work aswell. https://www.amazon.com/shop/blackbear...
